A few moths ago, I decided that I wanted a new signature scent…so I went sniffing. It had been a while since I had a favorite. My last preference was Happy By Clinique, but that was many years ago. Although I’m still an (overall) happy person, I just outgrew that scent. Anyway, it has been fun sampling and smelling various fragrances from friends and various brands. Some have been “almost hits” – like The One By Dolce & Gabbana. (It smells so good on my friend Felicia.) Others – that won’t be named because scent is so subjective – have been definite misses. The scent that I eventually chose was a sample that was sent to me for a review…ANGEL by Thierry Mugler.
While I don’t claim to be an “angel”, I thought that I would like the scent even before it arrived. The public relations person had actually sent over two options and described them as the following:
Thierry Mugler ANGEL Aqua Chic, a floral oriental fresh fragrance provides the perfect temptation for summer sensations and delights, infused with aromatic rose water and revealed with a sparkling freshness. A delicate and acidulated rose water unravels at the heart of the fragrance and blends with a fruity and juicy raspberry blossom and green apple granite accord, to refresh the most voluptuous of Mugler’s creations.
Thierry Mugler ALIEN Aqua Chic, a floral amber fresh fragrance, is instilled with fragrant orange blossom water and revealed with a vibrant freshness, making it the perfect temptation for summer pleasures and warmth. Infused with soft, solar orange blossom water, the original fragrance is refreshed by a vibrant and mellow lemon blossom and pink grapefruit accord.
While both scents sounded nice, the rose and berry scents in ANGEL more closely matched the custom fragrance that I made several years ago. (I had made a fruity floral scent that I named “Almost There”.) After sampling both scents, I realized that my “hunch” was right. The Alien By Thierry Mugler scent was fragrant, but it was a little too strong for my personal taste. ANGEL is just right…subtle but memorable. As a bonus, my husband Reggie likes it too. I spray a bit of ANGEL on my pulse points every morning as a fresh start to the day. (As I’m writing this post, I remembered that “angel” was one of my “3 words” for 2010. Maybe this scent pick is really a daily reminder for me to be a kind, loving, selfless person!)
In any event, fragrances (like ANGEL) make wonderful gifts to give or receive for Mother’s Day. Scents and memories really are so intertwined so be certain that your fragrance gift pick is one that the recipient appreciates. (If you’re not certain, gift cards to stores or sites that sell a variety of scents are always great options.)
