Last Friday, I went to the Ronald McDonald House New York to see the unveiling of their newly renovated kitchens for their residents (pediatric cancer patients and their families). Former “Top Chef” contenders Dave Martin and Andrea Beaman did a special “cook-off” challenge with the kids. There were kids involved, so it ended up being a “tie”. I tasted the pilaf and macaroni and cheese dishes. They both were really good.
I walked away with two main thoughts. One: I’m so very fortunate to have two healthy sons. It is a blessing that I should never take for granted. Two: kids have indomitable spirits. You would never have known that many of the kids had cancer. They were playful and joyful and a ton of fun to be around. That is why I like about the Ronald McDonald house….they provide hope for the kids and their families during their challenging treatment times. From the design of the Home to programs that keep the residents entertained, it is a great facility. One such program is the “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” series that was launched on Friday. It features a different celebrity chef each month to cook with the families and is hosted by Chef Dave Martin.
In any event, I like to give you all a “glimpse” of things that stand out to me when I go out, so below are pictures and a brief video of singers from the event:
