7 Favorite Things (January)

1. Johnson & Johnson Soothing Vapor Bath: A Mom in the City member recommended this product for when kids have a cold. Sometimes it is hard to find in stores (probably because it works so well!), so I try to stock up on it when I can. You simply pour it into the warm bath water (of babies three months and older). I think of it as “Vick’s VapoRub light and healthy” for kids because it really does help my boys breathe better better. What I also like is that it doesn’t cause my boys’ sensitive skin to break out.

2. Dale and Thomas; Hall of Fame Kettle Corn: I was over a girlfriend’s house and she served this popcorn as a snack. I’m not a huge fan of popcorn, because I have to floss like crazy after eating it. However, I couldn’t stop myself. It has this combination sweet-salty taste that keeps me buying it for myself now. (Did you eat Crunch ‘n Munch growing up? If so, Kettle Corn tastes a lot like that without the nuts – which was my least favorite part anyway).
3. BabyLegs leg warmers: It has been cold in NYC lately. I feel badly about Sean having to go out in the cold with me to drop off and pick up Michael from School. I feel a bit better because I know that at least his legs are nice and covered when he’s wearing his leg warmers. (I carry him in a side carrier, which makes his pants ride up. The leg warmers make sure that his skin isn’t exposed to the cold.) I get “frantic” when I misplace them. To me, they’re invaluable (even though my husband says that Sean looks like “Leroy from Fame” with the legwarmers on…oh well!).

4. Archipelago Botanicals Pomegranate Lip Gloss: Archipelago Botanicals has some great products overall. (I purchased some of their bath products for Christmas gifts). Their lip gloss is my personal favorite though. It leaves my lips smooth and shiny (but not looking like I piled Vaseline on them). I’m also in love with the pomegranate scent. Lastly, if you lick your lips on occasion, you (or your significant other!) will also like the taste.

5. Portable DVD player: My husband has one of the nicest ex-bosses around. Last year, she gave us a Coby 7” Portable Flat Screen DVD Player simply because she thought we’d enjoy it when we traveled (it wasn’t a birthday, holiday or anything!). Anyway, this was one of the best items that we’ve ever received. It’s so helpful. Although my husband is more tech-savvy than I am, neither of us have figured out how to have the Wii and the standard DVD player connected to our television at the same time. So, we have to switch the plugs each time that we want to change from one system to the other. This portable player saves us the trouble of having to constantly switch back and forth. I use it to watch movies that I need to review. The kids use it to watch “Planet Heroes” and their other DVDs. Now, we only have to make “the switch” on family movie nights.
6. Table Runners: I have a long, rectangular dining room table that I love. My challenge has been how to decorate it. I really like the color of the wood, so I don’t like tablecloths covering it. However, just leaving it with nothing but a centerpiece still felt a bit bare. Table runners have turned out to be the perfect solution. My in-laws had given us a gift card to Bed Bath & Beyond for Christmas. While browsing through the store, I saw several nice ones. Now, I feel like my table is “finished” without being too covered up.

7. The color red: I don’t know why (maybe because it’s Chinese New Year?), but red has been “my” color this month. Red is the color of happiness and prosperity in China. Anyway, I purchased a red tee, turtleneck and flats this month. (Yes, I’m still keeping to a strict budget – all three purchases were made with a gift card that my Daddy gave me for Christmas.) On a side note, am I the only adult woman who still calls her father, “Daddy”?!
