Two Disney Channel Releases (WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE & PHINEAS & FERB)

Kids seem to grow up much quicker today. Take, for instance, my older son Michael. His television choices seem to have changed overnight. For the last six months or so, his favorite shows have changed from Sid, The Science Kid to the Disney shows for older kids. His two favorite are Wizards of Waverly Place and Phineas and Ferb. They’re rated “G”, so we let him watch them. However, my husband and I make sure that at least one of us is watching along, because sometimes the language can include things that we don’t like for Michael to say (a little “smart alecky”), but for the most part we enjoy the shows too! So, we were happy to get to review the most recent Disney Channel Releases of these two shows.
WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE: Supernaturally Stylin’
This DVD contains four episodes from the fun, popular series based on two brothers (Justin and Max) and one sister (Alex) that are all wizards-in-training. My family had already seen the original episodes on television, but it was good to see them altogether without commercials.) There was the freeze-frame spell where Alex stops time in order to “fix” a fashion show and the effects of Wizard Wear where magical “smarty pants” causes Alex to experience unexpected side effects at an academic quiz bowl. There was also a blind “Wiz-Face” date which causes Justin to turn into a werewolf and the time when the boys trap Alex’s high school nemesis Gigi in Alex’s magic journal. You can see a clip of the latter episode below:

The DVD also includes a bonus feature “Fashionista Presto Chango!”, a behind the scenes look at the wardrobe area of the various cast members. The actors in the series share about their screen style and share various trivia (i.e. see if you can you find the peace signs on Alex’s clothing/accessories). There are also some sneak peeks of upcoming Disney movies (Pinocchio, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, etc.).
PHINEAS & FERB: The Daze of Summer
We really love this clever show at the Coleman home. In it, stepbrothers Phineas and Ferb are constantly coming up with and executing grand ideas regarding what they’re going to do each day of the summer. Their sister Candace keeps trying (and failing) to “bust ‘em”. Meanwhile, their pet platypus Perry (whom they think doesn’t do anything) is a secret agent who fights the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz.
In this DVD, five of the episodes are shared where…
-they put on their own circus (we hadn’t seen that one before)
-they invent a bestselling platypus toy that does nothing
-they have a Medieval jousting tournament
-they create android versions of themselves (“Brobots”)
And
-they create a monster truck (the Candace Crusher) for their sister Candace to practice driving
The DVD also includes an all new mall science fair game where you can play science experiment games. You can see the intro below:
