Charity of the Month Giveaway: Dress for Success
March 1, 2009 by Kimberly · 24 Comments
Since we’re focusing on Spring Fashion and Beauty this month, I thought that it would be great to contribute to a clothing-related charity. I chose Dress for Success because they are a great cause, they have a “four star” Charity Navigator rating and they have a variety of ways to donate.

The mission of Dress for Success is “to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.” Each Dress for Success client receives a suit when she has a job interview and can get a second suit or separates when she finds a job.
You can help out this charity by donating your time, clothing or a large or small financial donation. To see the specific ways that you can contribute, please visit www.dressforsuccess.org. FYI: Dress for Success accepts new and gently used suits, business attire and accessories. (I have three pairs of dress slacks in my closet that still have the tags on them that I’ll be donating!)
As an incentive for Mom in the City readers to donate their time, clothing and/or finances, I’ll be giving away a $50 Macy’s gift card to one Mom in the City reader.
To win, simply leave a comment below indicating which of the three actions listed in this post that you are personally taking by March 31st. (For an extra entry, send a tweet out about this charitable giveaway.)

I have been donating time working at a local food bank. It has been very eye opening. It has made me personally more thankful.
I have worked with women looking for work/to improve their situation as well as Dress for Success in the past. I am a Vocational Counselor and I have worked most specifically with women/men with disabilities or with other barriers to employment. I have helped many find training/education and determine what they were interested in doing and what skills they had to acquire their dreams. Whenever I get a chance I try to donate to Dress for Success b/c their programs often assists potential employees with that final step… CONFIDENCE. It is so important as well as necessary in today’s difficult job market. GREAT CONTEST!!!!

Thanks for letting me know about this great program. My sister in law and myself have gone through our closets and come up with quite a bit to donate. The center closest to us is looking for larger “plus size” clothing that I’ve been wanting to get rid of for awhile. I had alot of weddings to go to right after I gave birth and have several pairs of nice slacks to give. I’m glad to know that they will go to a great cause. Thanks.
I’ll be donating after my annual spring cleaning of the closets!
I don’t work out of the house anymore and don’t need many dresses or high heels so I’ll donate those.
I have donated to them in the past. I have a suit that I no longer wear and I will be donating it.
