Two Child-Resistant Safety Products

Did you read my Baby-Safe Q & A post last year? In it “The Safety Dad” (James Hirtenstein) was kind enough to answer several Mom in the City member questions. Recently, I was sent two products to review that have helped me personally answer the following two questions:
1. I purchased some socket plugs, but my toddler just figured out how to take them out. What do you recommend?
One recommendation: Socket-Lockits
Designed by a dad after he learned that Consumer Reports considered outlet covers “unsafe”, these covers are both safe and cute. My kids quickly learned how to take out the standard white plastic outlet covers, so I was impressed with the self-locking mechanism with these covers. My kids can’t easily remove the covers. (I had to go back and read the instructions in order to remove the covers myself!) The other great thing about this product is that they are available in a variety of designs (made with non-toxic ink) or you can have them customized in order to match the rooms that you want to put them in. 2. How do I keep little fingers out of low cabinets? (My cabinets are flat/no knobs/handles.)
One recommendation: Dream Baby’s Multi-Purpose Latch
This clear latch meets so many different safety concerns. Whether you’re concerned about your kid getting into the family washing machines, cupboards, dishwashers, refrigerators, etc., this simple latch will ease your worries. I like that it’s easy to install. You simply peel off the backing on the two discs and press them on the two surfaces that you want to connect. Although it helps prevent kids from opening things that you don’t want them to, the latches are easy for adults to use. You simply pull the strap from one of the discs to open and press it back on to the disc to close. This little $4.95 product gives me so much more peace of mind when it comes to keeping my kids out of the cabinet where I keep all of my cleaning supplies!
