QuickStart Tennis US Open Experience

Back in May, I wrote a post called QuickStart Tennis Builds Character. It was about a new tennis play format for kids ages 5 to 10. Since then, my kids have played tennis several times. Michael usually starts off by using the tennis racket like a baseball bat. Then, after a while he gets back into the swing of things. (I wish that my oldest brother lived nearby. He’s a trained tennis instructor!)
As a follow-up, my family was offered a hands-on demonstration of the QuickStart Tennis youth format by USTA representatives at the US Open’s “Smashzone”. After, we had a chance to watch the U.S. Open for the day. My husband normally could care less what goes on in my blogging life (as long as I’m happy), but he was excited about this event. (I think that it was the catered private suite in Arthur Ashe Stadium – it’s all about the food with him!) He also wanted to see one of the Williams’ sisters play. He got his wish – Venus played (and won).
After going through some of the practice drills with the QuickStart Tennis staff, I was impressed. If you want to get your kids involved with tennis, you should definitely check it out. It’s a national program, but you can find one of their local programs (by city, state or zip code) here. Meanwhile watch the clips below to see some drills that you can practice with your kids and to see some adorable “kid commentary” from the day’s events. (Thanks to Katja, Linda and Melissa for allowing me to “borrow’ their kids!)

Thanks for posting a great video about QuickStart. Kids who learn to play tennis will be able to play it for a lifetime. What a fun sport for kids of all ages! (Sorry about placing my comment on the wrong page previously!)
The video was so cute! I love how they all liked the balloon room
