I Dream of Disney

Last week, I attended a NYC event showcasing some of the features of the Disney Dream. It is a new Disney family cruise ship that is set to sail in 2011. I won’t go into a lot of detail, because I know that you’ll forget about it. There were a few things that especially stood out though…
1. The thing that everyone “oohed and aahed” about was the AquaDuck Water Coaster. This will be the first water coaster on a ship. The 765 feet long coaster will have twists, turns, and drops – everything that a regular coaster has.

2. The theater on the ship is going to be exceptional. Actually, there will be two. The Walt Disney Theater will feature Broadway style show, including a new production, Villains Tonight, featuring Hades from Hercules and many other Disney villains. Then, there is the Buena Vista Theater which will show first run Disney films (including some that will be playing in national movie theaters simultaneously).
3. Young kids will love Andy’s Room. It is in the kid’s area of the ship where Andy’s Room – based on Toy Story – “shrinks” children to toy size. (Obviously, the toys are oversized.) When I came home and showed my sons the pictures from the event, Michael promptly declared that he wanted to live in Andy’s room.

My goal in attending the event was to try to persuade someone to have a Disney cruise ship depart directly from NYC. (My kids loved Disney. I want to take a family cruise. I’m not sure that I could handle flying to Florida and THEN taking a cruise with the kids though.) Okay, so that was more of a wish than a goal. Anyway, I couldn’t get a firm commitment, but several Disney reps mentioned that since Disney has more ships, my dream is a greater possibility.
I know that the Disney Dream ship won’t be available to 2011, but they are starting to book the cruises for the Jan 26, 2011 maiden voyage beginning November 9, 2009 (for you super planners) at disneycruise.com.
Meanwhile…Adventures by Disney is running the following special offer:
If you purchase an Adventures by Disney vacation between October 26, 2009 and January 15, 2010, you will receive a free three-night Disney Cruise to the Bahamas. You can find out more about this offer and Adventures by Disney at www.AdventuresbyDisney.com/freecruise. Happy cruising!

I love Disney. Everything is larger than life. We are in NC, so the drive to FL is not that bad. Oigianlly from South GA, so we usually go there and then 3 hours to Orlando. We try to go every year. The Disney Visa is great way to get “money” for Disney.
Thank you for trying. I too, believe the flight and cruise travel is too much for a family. I hope they create a departure from NYC soon.
Thanks Vanessa, for the 411 on the Disney Visa. When having kids, we need to find ways to help our pockets.
