How Do You Celebrate Veterans Day?
November 9, 2009 by Kimberly · 5 Comments
I read a post, Dr. Jill Biden: A Mother’s Gratitude on Veterans Day, that caused me to think. I realized that I don’t really celebrate the meaning of Veterans Day. I intend to change that this year.
I really have no excuse. My father is a (Vietnam) veteran. My brother is an Army man who has served two tours in Iraq. My niece is in the military…and may very well be sent oversees soon if things go as planned. Politics aside, I understand the sacrifices that those who have (and are) serving our country in the military make. Why haven’t I been giving them their rightful due? Oh well, there’s no better time than the present to change.

Do you do anything special to celebrate Veterans Day?

I think it’s wonderful that you have chosen to take note of Veterans Day today. I celebrate my birthday on Veterans Day and I also try to take extra time to honor those who have served. I wrote a post about it for today if you would like to read it. Thank you for sharing.

I’m sorry to say that I don’t celebrate Veteran’s Day, either. I’m so proud of my military friends, and in awe of the sacrifice of each veteran who has fought for our country, but my family never really celebrated. I think maybe I’ll change that.

I don’t do anything to celebrate Veteran’s Day. I often forget that my brother is a veteran (he served 4 years in the Navy during peacetime). I think there seems to be more emphasis placed on Memorial Day that Veteran’s Day doesn’t get as much attention.
My father was a veteran. I take time on Veteran’s Day to reflect about all the service men and women who have given so much to us. We are truly lucky to have them.
