December 30 Ad. What advertisement made you think this year?
The songs to the FreeCreditReport.com commercial ads stick in my head and the commercials are so catchy. While listening to the songs, I think of how important it is to know what is in my credit report so that I’m not being scammed. Here is one of their most recent ads:
The reason that these ads make me think though is the fine print. Did you notice this statement on the screen “Free credit score and report with enrollment in Triple Advantage”? I only noticed it because I was looking for it. Recently on a call with Jean Chatzky, I learned that there are legitimate places where you can get free credit reports and scores. Ironically, freecreditreport.com is not one of them. (You can get a free copy of your credit report annually from each of the major credit bureaus at annualcreditreport.com, creditkarma.com, credit.com and quizzle.com.) Although the FreeCreditReport.com commercials are not scams (like the ones that they parody), they are pretty close. That makes me think (pot / kettle)…
