I’m constantly making new goals. A new day/week/month/year is a great excuse for me to do so. Well, last month when I turned 36, I decided to go back to doing “something new” each month. (I had been doing this for a while. After trapeze flying though, I kind of let the idea go. Everything else seemed to pale in comparison.) This time around, I’m just seeking experiences that are a little (or lot) out of my predictable experiences/ “outside of my box”.
This “something new” mentality is one of the reasons that I accepted an invitation from the wonderful Barbara Jones of One2One Network to attend a special album release concert by Diane Birch at City Winery last Thursday. (Remember, the last concert that I attended was by Mary J. Blige!) I’m so glad that I went. There were some of my favorite things: tasty tapas (they totally ruin my eating plans, but oh well!); wonderful people (Isabel, Amber Maduell, Onica, John Andrews, Katja Presnal, Nirasha, Nicole Feliciano, Ms. Latina, Paula Bruno, Lindsay Maines, Melanie Notkin, Nichelle Pace and Ted Rubin) and amazing music.
I could go on an on about how pleasantly surprised I was by how much I enjoyed the concert. I really should not have been shocked – Diane Birch has received a lot of positive music press already. However, when it comes to music, it’s sometimes best to hear a sampling for yourself. Since I had my handy Flip with me, I recorded a few of the songs that she performed from “Bible Belt”. “Nothing But A Miracle” was one of my favorites, so here it is below:
(You can hear more of her music at http://myspace.com/dianebirch. Also, be sure to read my “Charity of the Month” post for June, because it will be connected with Diane Birch’s debut album.)
