Last Friday, I turned 37. The actual day wasn’t especially exciting, because I had a lot of work to do, but the weekend was fabulous overall. In less than a week of being 37, I have already done “something new” by riding a mechanical bull at the Hebrew National picnic on Saturday afterrnoon. That was really fun. Later that night, I was at an 80s themed party that I had helped to put together for the Singles at my church. It was such a pleasant surprise when my husband took the microphone from the DJ and presented me with a beautiful bouquet of flowers that was a gift from the Singles. Right after that, the DJ played my favorite group dance song, “The Cupid Shuffle” and I had a blast dancing the night away. “To the left, to the left, to the left…”
As soon as I left the dance, my body reminded me that I wasn’t a “young’un” anymore. My left foot was so cramped up that I could barely walk. If was as if someone was saying, “Who do you think that you are…riding a mechanical bull and dancing all times of the night…all on the same day?!” Fortunately (after icing my foot and elevating it all night) I could walk again on Sunday when the fun continued. Unbeknown to me, a few of my girlfriends had a surprise for me. After church, they gave me a gift certificate for a spa massage. (They know me so well!) They they let me know that my husband Reggie was going to watch the kids while they took me to high tea at Alice’s Tea Cup – one of my favorite tea spots in the city.
It was a beautiful day on Sunday and we all just had a great time doing “girly” stuff – hanging out , shopping for clothes, talking about our hopes for the rest of the year and such. We actually ended up going to another cute little place to eat, because Alice’s Tea Cup had a two hour waiting period. (No thanks!) The day ended up being perfect though. I was able to try a new place with good food…and even better company. It doesn’t get much better than that!
