Zappos.com items

I can hardly believe that the summer is almost over and school will be starting in around two weeks. Have you already done your “Back to School” shopping yet? We have already bought all of the school supplies, but I have not purchased one item of clothing for the boys yet.  In my mind, I was planning on shopping after camp ends this Saturday.  It turns out that we’re going camping as a family next week (yay!) so I’m going to have to hurry up and get a move on it.  Fortunately, I attended a few blogging events over the last couple of weeks that have provided some direction for when I’m ready to break out my wallet…

T.J. Maxx and Marshalls: Fellow blogger Audrey McClellan (of Mom Generations) hosted an informative event for these stores (which happen to be two of my favorite off-price retailers).  I like a good deal…especially for kids’ clothes since they tend to grow out of them so quickly.  With prices up to 60 percent less than department or specialty stores (for the exact same items), these two stores should be at the top of every budget-conscious mom’s shopping list!

-*Amazon Kids’ Boutique: Amazon.com has several cute outfits for both boys and girls at their kids’ boutique.  I especially liked this classic little sweater for boys from Tea Collection.

Zappos.com: My friend Nicole (of MomTrends) hosted a fun “Back to School” themed event last week where I learned more about Zappos clothing division.  I am already a huge fan of their shoe selection. (When Michael was younger, he had extra-wide feet and Zappos.com was one of the few places where I could constantly find cute shoes in his sizes.  Fortunately, his feet are normal now, but I will always remember the great service that I received from Zappos!)

Several of the fall trends for kid clothing were discussed at the event.  The boho style, flared jeans, pops of color and stripes are popular for girls.  On the other end of the spectrum, shiny, pink, sparkles, florals, polka dots and “princess” styled clothing and shoes are in demand.  (There were some really cute Bella Ballerina Skechers that had all of the grown women “oohing” and “aahing”.)  On the boys’ front, pops of color, cargos, layered shirts, distressed denim, desert boots and mixing prints/”no rules” were featured.

I must say that the most coveted item when I returned home from the event was the spiky MadPax backpack. Sean loved it the most, so he gets to keep it.

In any event, there are a lot of choices out there – both online and off.  Just in case you have missed something during your shopping trips, one Foodie City Mom newsletter subscriber will win a $50 gift card to be used at Amazon Kids’ Boutique.  To win, simply let me know the name of the item in the boutique that you would purchase in the “Comments” section below by noon on 9/15. Good luck!

Thanks to all of the brands and event hostesses for the information and the gift items that were handed out at each event!
