Earlier this month, my family went down to Washington, DC for my husband’s family reunion. My brother lives in Maryland, so my mom and sister brought my niece and nephew up from Virginia to his home. I was happy to spend time with them the day before the family reunion activities. Of course, I couldn’t visit Maryland without eating some crabs, so my brother took me to a great seafood place near his home, Captain Mo’s Seafood Carryout. I bought a dozen crabs that we took back to my brother’s gorgeous home and went to work. I realized that I haven’t had crabs in a while. I had forgotten how messy they are and which side to open (?!) Opening crabs is like riding a bike though…I quickly got back into the swing of it. It is a lot of work for a relatively little amount of crab meat, but it’s so worth it! (The restaurant also had shrimp, fish and oysters.)

I also bought some fried chicken from Simply Good. My family was raving about this local Waldorf, MD spot. Their chicken was really good and the service was friendly. (My brother called ahead so that the chicken would be freshly cooked by the time that we arrived.) Let’s just say that it disappeared quickly once we got back to his home!

In any event, I trust the recommendations of locals, more than any other source when it comes to restaurants. So, if you’re looking for some delicious crabs or juicy fried chicken in Maryland, you might want to make note of these two establishments!
