Disney Social Media Celebration “On-the-Road” New York – Top SEO Tips

Disney Social Media Celebration “On-the-Road” New York - Top SEO Tips and Tools presentation by Lil' Luna's Kristyn Merkley

Yesterday, Disney Parks held a Disney Social Media Celebration “On-the-Road” New York conference event for bloggers and social media influencers here in New York. As I mentioned on my @mominthecity Twitter account,

I don’t go to many “influencer” events anymore because my schedule is more full now that I have a tween and teen. (Is it summer break yet?!) Disney is (almost) always an exception though because they are an EXCEPTIONAL company.

Not only did the half-day conference-style program share a sneak peek of what’s happening at Disney Parks, but it also shared how Disney Parks does their social media. In addition, we learned from a great line-up of speakers. All of the sessions were educational and/or inspiring. I tweeted most of the session recaps (check #DisneySMC on @mominthecity), but I was so interested in Kristyn Merkley’s SEO session that I didn’t get a chance to share as I learned. I loved how she shared about focusing on your SEO goals and provided practical advice regarding how to meet those goals. My friend Jen shared a couple of her helpful’ presentation slides.

(On a side note, an attendee asked Kristyn Merkley what presentation software she used and her response was “Prezi”.‎)

In addition, Kristyn Merkley strongly recommended SEMrush, a premium keyword and competitors research tool. She primarily mentioned using it to pull reports of the top content on her site. Since her site receives millions of visits a month, she obviously knows what she is talking about! Along with Kristyn Merkley, some of my favorite marketing and blogging podcasters – including Marketing School’s Neil Patel & Eric Siu and The Blog Millionaire’s Brandon Gaille – highly recommend this tool. They have recommended SEMrush for the following: to see how your site and keywords are ranking, keyword research to uncover competitors’ SEO strategy and to see what is popular on their sites, and much more. Overall, it has been described as the “one tool that I could never live without”.

Although SEMrush does come highly praised, it’s not an inexpensive tool (plans start at $99.95 a month). The good news though is that you can get a FREE 7-Day trial at SEMrush Complimentary Membership to see if it’s worth the investment for your blogging business.

Kristyn Merkley also recommended a couple of free keyword research tools – Google Analytics and Google Search Console. Overall, I left the session thinking that Kristyn Merkley did a wonderful job of sharing SEO best practices.

P.S. It wasn’t mentioned in the presentation but if you haven’t read Moz’s FREE Beginner’s Guide to SEO, please do so.  It is very informative and helpful.
