1. Minecraft updates: My son Michael was so excited to note that Minecraft had recently made some major updates. There are ocelots and iron golems now. They’re the best! And now zombies can break down doors.” – Michael (To receive official Minecraft update news visit https://mojang.com/.)

2. NYC reading and math test scores:
They are now available online. Parents can log into the student information database Aris Parent Link to obtain the information.

3. FREE basic html online training:
If your child is interested in html, check out this free html tutorial (that Michael found) at w3schools.com. (That kid…he’s teaching himself html!)

4. Boys in school:
My friend Candace wrote a thought-provoking post, Are Schools Becoming Intolerant of Boys? As the 2013/2014 school year begins, it is an important question to ponder.

5. Bow Ties: National Bow Tie Day was August 28th. Historical tidbit: Bow ties originated in the 17th century when Croatian mercenaries wore them to hold together the opening of their shirts. The bow tie is popular right now with “hipsters”, but I think that bow ties always look dashing on boys. Below is a quick YouTube tutorial on how to tie a bow tie:
