I get pitches for a variety of food and food related items I turn down the vast majority unless they are experiential or I would buy the items in the future on my own dime. Below are three items that fall in the latter category:
Glad MatchWare
I pack lunch for my kids every school day. Sandwiches can get boring, so I often use Glad containers that I have bought to pack “leftover lunches” (pasta & meatballs, special wraps and such). That is why I agreed when a PR rep asked me to try the new GLAD MatchWare containers.
They are cute, right? I was sent the square package. While that is great for packing leftovers for refrigerator storage and for stacking the containers in my cupboard, I would buy the rectangle ones. (They would fit better into my sons’ lunch bags.)
Godiva Truffle Flights
I was actually invited to a NYC event that was featuring Godiva’s first-ever Truffle Flight Collection. Although I had a schedule conflict, the reps were kind enough to send me over a box with several of the options.
They are as good as they look. After sampling several individual chocolates with the kids, I sent the rest to work with Reggie for the teachers to enjoy. (He reported back that the teachers loved the chocolates too!)
This is what is in each one:
* Nut Lovers Truffle Flight: Salted Almond, Hazelnut Crunch, Pecan Caramel, Butterscotch Walnut, Maple Walnut, Pistachio.
* Dark Decadence Truffle Flight: Dark Vanilla Mousse, Chocolate Soufflé, 50% Dark Chocolate, Chocolate Lava Cake, 72% Extra Dark Chocolate, Aztec Spice
* Heavenly Mousse Truffle Flight: Dark Vanilla Mousse, Milk Chocolate Mousse, Strawberry Mousse, Lemon Mousse, Peach Mousse and Café Au Lait Mousse
* Cake Truffle Flight: Birthday Cake, Pineapple Hummingbird Cake, Cheesecake, Red Velvet Cake, Chocolate Lava Cake, Lemon Chiffon Cake.
* Ultimate Dessert Truffle Flight: Chocolate Éclair, Crème Brulee, Red Velvet Cake, Chocolate Lava Cake, Tiramisu, Strawberry Crème Tarte
* Milk Chocolate Lovers Truffle Flight: Chocolate Éclair, Milk Chocolate Mousse, Milk Chocolate, Butterscotch Walnut, Salted Almond, Hazelnut Crunch
Of all the sweet “flights”, the cake truffle flight selection was my very favorite.
Harlem Cake Company
My friend Sabrina (founder of Arlicia’s Music) introduced me to the Harlem Cake Company. She was kind enough to bring me a sampling of their offerings this past week. I became a fast fan of their cupcakes. I tried the chocolate mocha and red velvet ones. While I have always been a fan of chocolate cupcakes, the red velvet flavor has only begun to grow on me the last couple of years though. (I wonder why…) Anyway, the cupcakes were moist and flavorful. I look forward to trying their actual cakes!
Chef James Rosebud, the founder, and his co-owner/wife Harriet Rosebud sell their offerings at a farmer’s market in Harlem as well as online. You can take a peek at their offerings at theharlemcakecompany.com.
