It’s time to vote.

(Voting with the kids in the 2008 election)

Tomorrow morning, I will be taking my two sons with me to vote for the second time in their lives. At that point, we will vote for President Barack Obama for the second time. I’ll be honest…my first vote was more against his challenger than for him. I just could not vote for his opponent due to his VP choice and the racially divisive nature of his campaign.

I wasn’t sure if President Obama was up to the task. He was. Has he been a perfect President? Of course not…there never has been one. However, he has shown grace under pressure and made some tough calls where lesser leaders would have just gone with the popular opinion. I also like how the international community has embraced him. (When I was visiting Paris, a Paris local encouraged me to vote for Obama?!) Most of all, I appreciate how his care and concern for the entire country has been made evident time and time again While I don’t agree with every decision that he has made, I am impressed with the leader that President Obama has become.

I’m not voting for Barack Obama
…because I’m Black.
…because I’m a woman.
(We are not a monolith. Black people and women can vote for whomever they choose.)

I AM voting for Barack Obama
…because after weighing where each candidate stands on a multitude of issues, I truly believe that he is the best choice to lead our country for the next four years.
(Yes, Christians CAN vote for Obama. If you try to tell me otherwise, just be ready to back it up with a book, chapter and verse in THE Bible…not your ‘bible of opinions’.)

Having said that, I’m not going to be mad at (or even think less of) you if you vote for Mr. Mitt Romney. Your vote = your choice. (Actually, despite all of his waffling regarding where he stands on various issues, I still believe that Mr. Romney cares about the people of this country.)  Just VOTE!
