On Sunday morning, a friend of ours took us to Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles before church. There are several different ones, but we went to the Hollywood one. I can sum up our food in a word: “yum”! I ordered the fried chicken wings and waffles. Since I had read that the waffles run on the soggy side, I asked for them to be prepared crispy…that made them the exact right texture. The truth is that the waffles were not anything special…a waffle is a waffle. The chicken was excellent though. It was seasoned so well that my husband couldn’t even stop talking about it. (He is harder to impress than I am.) Their lemonade tea was also especially good.
I was talking to a new friend at church later in the day and she informed me that I had tasted Roscoe’s “wrong”. Some locals eat the meal by wrapping the waffle around the fried chicken and dipping the combination into the syrup. That way, they get both the sweet and salty flavor in one bite. I’ll try that the next time…
