My gift-giving motto in general is “give them what they want” (within my financial budget, of course). This philosophy applies more than ever for Mother’s Day this year! When I was first contemplating some last minute Mother’s Day gift ideas to suggest for 2020, I only had one pick:
For those who might like just a *bit* more guidance, I turned to my mom friends. If you want to show mom that you care more than ever, consider one of these self-care gift ideas from everyday moms.
Last Minute Mother’s Day Gift Ideas
1. Mug
During these stay at home times, some moms are enjoying their cups of coffee more than ever. A good insulated coffee mug to keep their drinks hot is great for moms who are constantly interrupted in the mornings. This Contigo Travel Mug is one of the best portable drinking mugs that I have ever used.
2. Loungewear / Athleisure
Here in NYC, we’re at home at least until May 15th so we moms need comfy, cozy clothes. I have already let “my guys” know that I want loungewear for my birthday in May. I don’t have a favorite brand (yet).
3. Books, Books, Books
There’s a book for every mom. Adult coloring books, journals to sort out thoughts, fiction and non-fiction are just some options.
4. Food That Someone Else Cooks
In the last 7 weeks, it seems like I have cooked 5,554 meals (random number)! I don’t mind cooking but I (and many other moms) appreciate cooking breaks. Whether the gift is a GrubHub or Seamless gift card or even a week or month subscription to a food delivery service like Real Eats, the prepared meals will be appreciated!
5. Skincare Products
This is a great time for moms to treat their skin. I know that one of my stay at home mini-goals is to leave this quarantine more “moisturized” than when I started it. Everyone has different skin needs so be sure to find out what products the gift recipient prefers.
6. Nail Care
Nail salons are missed by so many. Encourage mom to stay safe at home with an at-home manicure set or pedicure gift set though!
7. Hair Products
I know that people are eager to get back to their hair salons. Many of us are not willing to take that risk just yet though. As a result, many moms are coloring their hair at home. In addition to Clairol drugstore products, a lot of moms on Facebook are recommending Madison Reed for at-home color. Since many “salon hair at home” articles are popping up, this is a great time to experiment with different hair treatments.
(I’m not quite ready to color or cut my own hair yet. We’ll see how long these social distancing recommendations last though…)
8. In-Home Entertainment
Although movie theaters are slowly starting to open up, many of us moms will prefer theatrical entertainment at home for a bit longer. Netflix and Disney+ subscriptions are great alternatives.
9. Spa Products
The additional pressures of these times can be stressful. Gifts like body massagers or spa gift boxes can help moms feel better. Essential oils – especially lavender – have calming effects on many people too so they make perfect last minute Mother’s Day gift ideas.
10. Baking Gifts
There must be something therapeutic about baking. I have never seen so many posts of friends’ homemade breads than in the last couple of months! Kitchn, one of my favorite food sites, has a post, 10 Gifts for Enthusiastic Bread Bakers, which has helpful ideas for some unique last minute Mother’s Day gift ideas.
11. Fitness Gifts
I have a gym membership but I prefer at-home workouts. Now, that my gym has stopped charging me, I’m going to (finally) get a TRX suspension trainer.
*Fitness gifts are tricky though. Unless someone asks for them, don’t get them. You might insult the gift recipient!
