Unlike most viewers, my family and I didn’t especially love the original LEGO Movie. However, the humor in the commercial for the new Lego Batman movie 2017 made us want to see the new one. Fortunately, Warner Brothers invited us to be guests at an advance screening of The Lego Batman Movie and (as expected) we thoroughly enjoyed it. If you have not seen the Batman Lego movie trailer yet, here it is:
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself, and then make a change
(from Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson)
The change that Batman needed to undergo involved his thoughts about family and friends. Initially, he wanted to be all alone and he didn’t like interacting with other people unless he was saving them. He had trained himself not to “need” people. Really, it was just a way to mask his hurt about losing his parents. He didn’t want others to get too close to him because he was afraid that they would get hurt or taken away from him also. As the movie unfolds, Batman learns to let others into his life and his heart. It was good to see how the people in his life won him over. Robin, whom Batman accidentally adopted; Alfred, who was basically his surrogate dad through the years; and Barbara Gordon, whom Batman obviously liked as more than a friend all helped him to change and grow. (The Joker did too, but I’ll let you learn that connection by watching the movie.) Overall, the LEGO Batman Movie 2017 shares great messages about teamwork and the importance of opening your heart to friends and family – all in a funny way that both kids and adults alike will appreciate and enjoy. The LEGO Batman Movie opens in theaters today, February 10th, so be sure to take your family to see it.
