Life Update

It has been almost six months since I last updated this blog. Rejecting the “sunk-cost fallacy”, I planned to let the blog sit here as a photo and recipe holder since it still earns more than it costs to host. I changed my mind after attending a campus visit with my youngest son Sean this past weekend though.

One of the speakers mentioned how their students are contributors and problem-solvers who lead and serve in various ways. While I have still been doing those things for my family and church community, I want to share what I have learned/am learning with a larger audience.

Since I’m focusing on college prep with Sean, I decided to share original and curated content to help other parents understand the process better. This is my second time going through it. I can hardly believe I have a high school senior and a college junior (?!)

I hope I can help parents stay informed and make better decisions about the college application process. Towards that end, I will share two posts a week for the next twelve weeks – through the end of 2024.

The past six months have primarily been focused on family – getting comfortable with our new normal after the passing of my dear father-in-law. There is still so much life to enjoy. One of the highlights was visiting Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic with my immediate family. Playing with the dolphins was one of my favorite memories!

Reggie and I also helped lead our Queens church ministry while our (paid staff) leaders went on sabbatical for a few months. It was a lot of work but it was fun and I learned a lot about leading from a place of gratitude – ESPECIALLY when those being led are volunteers!

If you have any questions about college planning, please let me know. I’m not making my new phone number public but you can email me at kcoleman@mominthecity.com. (I was SO sad that I needed to change my number for a random, crazy reason BUT that’s another story for another time!)
