I mentioned last year how much I dislike school fundraisers on my Fundraising Drive post. Since I only ended up having to do one last year, it was alright. (Yes, it is the parents who do the fundraisers when the kids are small. The kids just get the little prizes for all of their parents’ hard work!) When I write fundraisers, I don’t mean things like bake sales, auctions, parties and such. I like those. I am referring to the ones where the kids bring home a catalogue of things to sell to others. I think that there are two of those at Michael’s school this year, so I decided to “opt out” of the first one that is due today.
I understand the importance of raising funds for schools. I do. That’s why I’m going to make a financial donation to the school for the amount that I would normally have felt compelled to fundraise. I just haven’t had the time, energy or inclination in the last few weeks to try to get my family and friends to buy overpriced items that they don’t really want or need. Please…it has only been two weeks that I’ve felt confident that we were even going to leave Michael in school.
Having written that, my loved ones are on notice: I will bother them the next time around. Thanks to them in advance for supporting my (oops – I mean Michael’s) efforts.
Granted, part of this is just that I don’t like sales. I never have and I probably never will BUT am I the only mom who is not a fan of catalogue fundraisers?
