A couple of days ago, a good friend of mines gave birth to her first child, a son. She texted me from the hospital to let me know that the baby had arrived and to thank me for my support. Her husband also left a message for our family on our answering machine. Yesterday, a mutual friend called me from her hospital room so that I could speak with the new mom. A flood of memories came rushing back from my two sons’ births.
I had read so much in advance when I had Michael that I had prepared myself for the “worst”. Fortunately, I got the “best”. We bonded immediately (after they washed him off!). The first few days were just adjusting to a new person calling the shots in our home (for a little while). My husband remembers the time as exhausting. Personally, I thought it was great getting to know this little (okay, big – 8pounds 10 ounces) miracle baby.
With Sean, things were a little different. I loved him from the moment that he looked up at me as if to say, “WHY are all of these people bothering me?” (He still has that same look at times…my little serious faced boy!) Anyway, I felt like he might “miss out” a little because I wasn’t able to give him my undivided attention. I was so wrong! Michael adored his little brother from the start and somehow it seemed like the sentiment was returned by Sean. To this day, Michael is still Sean’s “favorite person”. Oh well, I’m tied for a close second (along with my husband!) Seeing the two of them bond the first few days made me happier than I could have ever imagined.
On another note, several moms around the blogosphere are either pregnant (i.e. Kristen and Rebecca) or just had their babies (i.e. Stephanie). As such, various bloggers are sharing our “new baby” thoughts. Congrats ladies!
