Should I Switch From A PC To A Mac?

At the end of last month, I attended a “Techlicious Tea with Tekserve”…in the comfort of my home. As a participant, I was sent a yummy package from Chelsea Market Baskets and I participated in a video webinar presentation regarding Mac products. Suzanne Kantra, Founder and Editor of Techlicious and Cassandra of Tekserve led the call that was focused on Mac gift options. The primary reason that I attended the call (besides the fact that my dear friend Heidi was the one who invited me) was to see if I should make the switch from a PC to a Mac. After the call, I’m still on the fence. I’m leaning more towards my friend Rebecca’s stance – she happily uses both a PC and a Mac in her home.

In any event, below are the points that stood out to me regarding the various Macs:

-MacBook Air (11″ or 13″): It is small, light and thin. It is best for frequent travel and more of a secondary rather than primary computer. The For some reason, the current one is more popular than any other MacBook Air before it. One thing that I didn’t like is that it doesn’t have a CD or DVD drive, which I currently have on my Toughbook. The pricing starts at $999.

-MacBook Pro: For some unknown reason, I remembered the RAM information for this laptop more than anything else. The Standard RAM starts at 2 gigabytes, but you can upgrade it. It was recommended that you pay $100 extra to go up to 4 gigabytes. The other thing that I remember is that (unlike the Air) it has a built-in disk drive.

-Mac mini: This is great for light computing tasks and packs the same power as a 13″ MacBook Pro. Although it looks like a mini laptop, it is actually a desktop computer. (It needs a screen, keyboard and mouse.)

-iMac:
This all-in-one desktop computer is great for small desk spaces. You can tuck the keyboard and mouse away and just use it as a display when you want to do so. It is a really good mainstream to high-end computers.

The Mac Pro was also mentioned. Besides the fact that its the fastest Mac ever, I don’t remember too much about this workstation computer. (Techlicious has a great post called “How to Choose the Best Mac” that provides a more comprehensive overview of the various Macs.) After viewing and hearing about all of the options, I would personally pick the MacBook Air as a laptop and the iMac (which I really liked!) as a desktop – if I were ever to make the switch. Unfortunately, I’m still a bit wary of going down the Apple road.

In any event, if I ever make the decision to switch to Mac, I have Tekserve’s info on file since they are right in the city. (They can transfer information from PCs to Macs.) Their store has other non-Mac items too, so I might just stop by anyway to poke around…
