Credit: Sony ElectronicsAs I mentioned in the
buttermilk biscuits recipe post, I attended a brunch at
SAVEUR’s test kitchen with
Sony’s President and COO Phil Molyneux. During the meal, Suzanne Kantra of
Techlicious led a discussion focused on Sony’s new initiatives with women. Some of my favorite blogging colleagues (Heidi,
Leticia, Liz,
Rebecca, Serena and
Vera) were also a part of the lively conversation. One thing was clear…there is no “one opinion fits all” when it comes to women and tech! There
was one thing that we all agreed on though…women do not want to feel condescended to when brands (tech or otherwise) market to us. We don’t want to be spoken down to or given inferior tech options masked in “cute” colors. Fortunately, Sony already has an excellent reputation when it comes to tech products. Their Xperia Z tablet and smartphone were especially attractive.
Sony’s Xperia Z tablet is pretty amazing. It is thin-actually the thinnest 10.1” tablet on the market. The ultra-strong glass is another bonus…especially since the glass on my former iPad mini shattered after one fall! One of the coolest things though is that it is water-resistant. Since I use my tablets in the kitchen (around water and other things that go “splash”), I love this feature. Look at this video that I took below of it being placed in water:
The event attendees were actually given this tablet as a gift at the end of the brunch. (How cool is that?) It is a really great tablet. The sound and visuals are excellent. The tablet also has infrared remote control and NFC technology. The primary reason someone
wouldn’t want to get this tablet is because it operates on an Android system. Personally, I don’t care that much. I happily had an Android tablet for a couple of years before buying the iPad. I only switched over to Apple’s iOS system because I needed to use Instagram and Vine for social media work. Now that both Instagram and Vine are on Android, I am happily switching back. (Then again, I’m not a huge iTunes and apps user overall.)Ultimately, I would say to examine how you use your various technology products and the features that are the most important to you before making a final decision regarding your tech purchases. For example, Sony’s Xperia Z phone is fabulous – especially when it comes to photo options. However, Verizon Wireless does not service these phones (yet…a girl can dream), so I wouldn’t get that phone here in NYC. However, I would get it in a second if I lived in another part of the country. It’s all about personal priorities…
