Last Thursday, I was fortunate to attend a Stop & Shop hosted luncheon at Sarabeth’s. (I’ll write more about that later…I’m just waiting for some pictures.) While there, Sarabeth herself demonstrated making her “famous” chocolate chip cookies. While doing so, she expressed the importance of kids cooking. She also claimed that everyone can bake. It’s just that many people mess up because they don’t make sure that they have all of the ingredients for the recipe beforehand. They start substituting items and then are surprised/disappointed/claim that they can’t bake afterwards.
I realized that it had been a while since I had baked with Michael, so I decided that we would bake something together on the week-end. I bought some ingredients to make banana bread, since we had some ripe bananas at home and on Saturday we baked. It really is a great way to spend bonding time with my son and also to teach him various skills (i.e. math and science) in a fun way. Michael is a fun “little chef”…that’s what he calls himself because of Disney’s Ratatouille.
The banana bread came out really well and the next day we were able to give some of it to his Sunday school teachers as a small “thank you” for teaching him.
